To explain this conversion, the ash components of the raw MSW
and the hydrothermally treated products were examined, as
shown in Table 6. It can be seen that the alkali and alkaline metals
were present in the raw MSW, and their content was reduced after
the hydrothermal treatment. Matheson and Tratnyek [22] showed
that ferrous metal promotes the dehalogenation of alkyl halides by
dissolving metal reductions; therefore, it is suggested that these alkali
metals reacted with PVC in the presence of water at high temperature
to produce inorganic chlorine
