Roofs
Where the roofs of buildings are close together
or connected to each other
, flame or smoke can easily spread. This risk may be reduced by
fire prevention measures, or by fire separation.
For some roof configurations, venting systems
may offer a means of reducing the spread
of fire (including the movement of flames
under the roof) and the spread of smoke
and toxic gases. Specialist advice should be
sought on whether venting systems would
be advantageous in a particular case. Where
a roof contains combustible materials these should
be replaced by non-combustible materials;
where this is not practicable, the roof should
be underdrawn with non-combustible board.
