The literature notes that in otherwise stable patients, there’s no reason to suspect drug-seeking behaviors during the intra-partum and postpartum period when assessing for use of pain medication (Johnston et al.,2010) and that women should not be denied adequate pain control because about recurring addictive behaviors (Goodman,2011). In a major-ity of cases, researchers noted that postpartum pain was and is undertreated due to a lack of standardized treatment recommendations, stigma and overcautiousness due to fear of drug-seeking behaviors(Unger et al.,2012).
