Review of special education pre-school launched
The Education Authority (EA) is planning to take a fresh look at proposals to reduce provision for special needs nursery pupils. The body apologised to parents this summer for how it has handled plans to cut hours from 4.5 to 2.5 hours a day.
Former education minister John O'Dowd criticised the decision, and ordered the EA to urgently revisit it. The minister accused the EA of making the decision "without consultation".
Now, EA plans to have another look. The body has said that provision should meet the needs of children with complex needs for whom a special school placement may be most appropriate.
