3.4. Cd accumulation and micronutrient content
It was found that plants grown in alfisol accumulate more Cd
than those grown in vertisol (Fig. 2). It was also concluded thatMTU 7029 accumulate more Cd than MO 16. Since accumulation
of Cd in rice is in the decreasing order of root, shoot and grain;
0.5 g CdCl2/4 kg soil could not lead to significant Cd accumulation
in grain where most of the Cd accumulated in roots and shoot
(Fig. 2B and C). Cd treatment influenced nutrient status of the plant
where Cd accumulation reduced calcium content (Table 4). Nutrients
such as magnesium, iron, and zinc also altered with Cd accumulation
but did not show clear trend (Table 4). Silicon content
found to increase with Cd accumulation (Table 4).
