On comparison of mean values of each quality characteristic
between the two systems of grinding, the normal force
component is higher in the graphite-assisted case, compared
to the conventional grinding. But, reverse is the case with
tangential force. As the graphite applied reduced the frictional
forces during grinding, tangential force component
tends to decrease. But, as the graphite in paste form might
have enhanced the chances of wheel loading, the normal
force tends to increases. The average of surface roughness
obtained in the graphite-assisted case is lower than that in the
case of coolant grinding. Therefore, better finish can be
expected with the solid lubricant application in grinding.
