Patient-Controlled Analgesia- Used to manage postoperative pain as well as persistent pain, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) allows patients to control the administration of their own medication within predetermined safety limits. This approach can be used with oral analgesic agents as well as with continuous infusions of opioid analgesic agents by IV, subcutaneous, or epidural routes. PCA can be used in hospitals or in home settings
