The RNA binding property of calreticulin is evident despite
the absence of a consensus RNP binding domain (23). The
lack of a consensus RNP binding sequence is not unique to
calreticulin since several cytoplasmic RNA binding proteins,
including glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (9),
the iron-responsive element binding protein (10), and some of
the small nuclear RNPs do not possess such domains (24).
