Form of worship
Type of services
A book of common order,approved by the general assembly,is available to ministers,most of whom follow one or other of the alternative froms given in it. The minister is not bound by it however and may introduce variations.He may also use his own prayers,so long as he follows the traditional words of institution and consecration.
The type of services normally held in a church are:
1 normal morning public worship;
2 everning worship which increasingly is taking a variety of froms,or may be largely a repetition of the morning service;
3 as above with addition of one or other of the sacraments,holy communion or baptism;
4 as above,with ordination of elders or admission of new communicants;
5 marriages.
Funeral services in a church are very infrequent.
