EMG recordings from the iliopsoas muscle were obtained using 2 wire electrodes (Medwire) inserted parallel to the muscle fibres. The wires were prepared by removing 5 mm of isolation at the tip. The wires were placed in an epidemic needle with the unisolated tip bent like a hook over the edge of the needle before autoclaving. Examination of cadavers showed that the wires could be inserted in the iliopsoas muscle through the skin at the triangle located proximally on the leg formed by the sartorius muscle, the inguinal ligament and the femoral nerve.
