It is not simply more light that we stand so
much in need of, but more warmth. No one
ever died of a lack of light, but millions have
sickened, declined, and died of a lack of
warmth, the warmth of close contact with
others who thereby demonstrated their involvement
in one’s welfare. Far too many
humans in the Western world have been
unloved to death. We need to understand that
we have for too long neglected and overlooked
the importance of tactile communication
not alone in the development of the
infant and child, but also in the development
of the adult.
