Typical work flow in forensic analysis of DNA:
1.Material received by laboratory certified to do forensic DNA analysis.
2.Material is catalogued and detailed records are kept of how material is handled.
3.Presumptive tests for type (and amount) of biological material may be done (sperm, semen, saliva, blood, etc.).
4.PCR analysis is done for several STRs.
5.Profiles are compared, suspects are listed as excluded (eliminated) or included (retained) 6.Inclusions are reported as likelihoods (using databases).
