The separation of palmitic/(oleic + linoleic) acids from palm fatty
acid distillate mixtures shows that palmitic acid was enriched from
a initial content in the multi-component feed mixture (palm fatty
acids distillates) of 52.51–74.39 wt.% in the extract, while oleic and
linoleic acids were enriched from a initial content in the feed mixture
of 46.27–59.00 wt.%in the raffinate, and squalene was enriched
froma initial contentinpalmfatty acids distillates of 0.62–1.22 wt.%
in the extract. In addition, the extraction experiments show that
the separation of squalene from fatty acid mixtures in countercurrent
columns using supercritical carbon dioxide as the solvent is
feasible. Based on the distribution coefficients of palm fatty acids
components and the results of extraction experiments, it is, therefore,
possible to conclude that the complete separation of palmitic
acid from (oleic + linoleic) acids needs at least two extraction steps, as the distribution coefficient of palmitic acids lies between those
of squalene and (oleic + linoleic) acids.
