Water and oil absorption tests showed that the uncoatedand the coated aerogels have high liquid absorption capacitiesof 18–20 times their own weights and can be easily reused bya simple squeezing to remove the absorbed liquid. The aerogelshowed good flexibility and mechanical property. Thermal conduc-tivities of 0.029–0.032 Wm−1K−1were found for the green aerogelconfirming that it is an excellent alternative material for thermalinsulation applications. With a hydrophobic coating, the materialdisplayed good water repellent property and stability.
