This short story, written by Hans Christian Anderson, depicts well human psychology.People fear other people's eyes and tend to be too concious of how other people regard themselves.
There is an Emperor who likes wearing new clothes so much that he changes his clothes every hour.
Some rogues try to cheat the Emperor by saying that they can weave special material the propety of which is invisible to an idiot or an incompetent peroson.
While the rouges weaving material, two loyal and competent officials of the Emperor are sent to check the material. They are suprised to find out the material is invisible, which means that they are idiots and uncompetent.
They report to the Emperor that the colors and desins of the cloth are wonderful. The Emperor himself goes to them to see the cloth. The Emperor is astonished because he can't see the cloth. But the emperor fears that if he says that cloth is invisible, that means the Emperor himself an idiot and uncompetent. So the Emperor makes his mind to pretend as if he sees the cloth.
On the day of prcession, though the Emperor walks naked, people in the city can not point out that the Emperor has nothing on, because every one fears that they may be thought as an idiots and incompetent if they say it.Moreover they might lose their jobs.
At last a little child point it out.
