Self leadership is fueled by self-motivation, as the self-leader moves toward obtaining his or her life's goals. More often than not, success means enduring difficulties and setbacks in our plans. This is when self-motivation(ie, the connection with our inner desires) feeds our individual capacity for persistence and focus, thus fostering efficacy in staying on target, dealing with our environment, or surrounding ourselves with a group of people to achieve our goals. Self-leadership strategies(see Chapter 8) help people stay in constant connection with their inner desires and/or tap that source of self-motivation, to keep their pace and energy in successfully pursuing their goals.
