According to Dahl (2006), Hofstede is one of the most prominent scholars
associated with cross-cultural research. Hofstede's (1981) cultural dimensions is one of
the most commonly cited concepts in cross-cultural research. Dahl (2006) stated that
"Hofstede derived his cultural dimensions from examining work-related values in
employees of IBM during the 1970's. In his original work he divides culture into four
dimensions at culture-level: power distance, individualism/collectivism,
masculinity/femininity and uncertainty avoidance" (p. 12).
