The chemical composition of the essential oil of Chromolaena odorata (L. Robinson) (Asteraceae) of leaves collected in
Benin was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty three compounds were identified and quantified in the essential oil, which
represented 99.4 % of the total constituents. The main constituents found in the oil were a-pinene (20.7%), pregeijerene
(14.6%), geijerene (12.0%), b-pinene (10.3%), germacrene-D (9.7%). The antibacterial activitiy of this oil was found to be
relevant while the antifungal and antiradical activities were low.
