At a meeting Monday with the NCPO top members, General Prayuth Chan-ocha stressed the setting up of the CRR be given the highest priority and has tasked the Interior Ministry and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) to handle the matter.
Governors of all province are to be the main drivers of the formation of the CRR and pushing for reconciliation at village and provincial levels.
At the same time the ISOC will be holding a meeting June 4 to formulate measures to achieving such a goal. All measures are to be given the highest priority and are expected to be finalized within the next two weeks.
Ministry of Interior’s permanent secretary Wiboon Sa-nguanpong, meanwhile, held a meeting through video-conferencing with all governors of each province in the country stressing the need to speed-up their duties along the road-map set-up by the NCPO.
He said this was to ensure that reconciliation and order can quickly be restored in the country.
Furthermore, he instructed that improper actions such as inflammatory comments against the monarchy, the spreading of false and inaccurate information to the public, the possession of firearms and narcotics and illegal substances must be curbed immediately.
He said daily reports on the progress of each province’s actions must be filed to the ministry’s central office by 2.30 pm of each day.
After the meeting, Suriya Prasart-bundid the new governor of Chiang Mai province, said that he was ready to take on the task of implementing measures to promote reconciliation in accordance with the guidelines of the NCPO.
However he expressed concern for his duties as Chiang Mai is a province that is rife with political conflict and will have to be handled with care.
But he stated in closing, that he was willing to take on the challenge and will adopt and attitude of compromise and cooperation to foster peace and stability in the province.
He warned however, that any civil servants who stay put and do not take their duties seriously will face serious consequences.
