Our much loved brother, son and friend Owen Auskerry is in a Thai hospital having suffered from a brain aneurysm on January 13th. This page has been setup to help fund his recovery and repatriation to the UK.
On Wednesday night, he suffered from a severe headache, then vomiting and seizures and was taken to hospital by ambulance after his lovely and quick-thinking girlfriend Janjira and friend Kyle made an emergency call.
He had suffered a brain aneurysm, which is basically a burst blood vessel inside his head. As a family we paid for him to be flown by air ambulance to Bangkok to receive the best possible care with one of the finest neurologists in the country. He has been in a medically induced state of sedation ever since, apart from the odd time he partially opened his eyes and appeared to smile at those looking after him.
Our parents, Simon and Teresa, flew from Orkney to Thailand via Amsterdam immediately to be by his bed side and give authorisation for his surgery on Friday 15th. After 3.5 hours of invasive surgery into Owen's skull, the surgeon pronounced the operation a success!
We now believe and hope he is on the road to recovery. All of us have been deeply touched by the influx of messages of support and love for Owen, who we all recognise as a wonderfully loving, lively, eccentric, funny and talented young man.
The cost of his medical treatment in Thailand and the financial implications of his parents going out there to help look after him, as well to bring him home have been and will continue to be considerable. We have been very fortunate to have so many people offering to help so we thought setting up this page would be a good way to channel that love and support into something practical.
Any money that is surplus will be given to a charity of Owen's choosing when he’s made the recovery we all believe and hope he can. We came close to losing one this world's finest young people. Your ongoing support is hugely appreciated. Thank you.
