Bali airport remains closed after Lombok volcanic eruption
Volcanic ash has again brought air travel to and from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport to a standstill.
This time the disruption has been caused by a different volcano - Mt Rinjani on neighbouring Lombok Island, with Jetstar and Virgin Australia cancelling flights.
Bali airport was closed to all air traffic on Tuesday afternoon and airport manager Trikora Harjo said it would remain closed until Thursday, November 5.
Virgin cancelled 10 flights in Tuesday, while Jetstar cancelled six flights in and out of Bali.
Both carriers are advising travellers to check flight status online before heading to the airport.
Mt Rinjani began erupting more than a week ago and the ash cloud began drifting west towards Bali early Tuesday.
"Tremors due to volcanic activities are continually being recorded and potential of more eruption is still high," said Indonesia's meteorological agency.
It comes three months after a major eruption on Mount Raung in Java sparked widespread travel chaos in Bali, with thousands of predominantly Australian holidaymakers stranded for days.
