3.3.3. Food waste-to-biogas
The GHG emissions from AD are mainly comprised of: (1) the GHG emission from the production of electricity that is consumed during the AD process, (2) the fugitive GHG emissions at the facility, and (3) the GHG emissions from the combustion of biogas. Fugitive emission of GHGs at the facility occurs when the reactor is open for maintenance or cleaning. Additionally, leaks from pipes and valves in the AD system may lead to fugitive emissions, although these fugitive emissions are usually minor.
