In the early morning of Rains Retreat Day (Khao Phunsa Day), the people of Phra Phutthabat district and nearby give food offerings to Buddhist monks. After that they, especially young people, collect rains retreat flowers or dok khao phunsa for use in the afternoon ritual. The flowering plant belongs to the same family as ginger and galangal. The stems are usually about 25 centimeters tall, with small flowers of white, yellow and purple colors on top. Some people then call them peacock flowers due to their colorfulness. Normally the flowers grow in forests that maintain a high amount of humidity. But it is quite surprising that the majority of the flowers only grow in Saraburi mountain areas.
