Schubert et al. (2009) found that nurse rationing is
inversely associated with patient safety and patient
satisfaction. The study supports the premise that nursing
resources are critical to patient safety. However, this
study used nursing accreditation level (which represents
nursing capabilities) as a novel nursing resource. The
findings of this study can help nursing administrators
consider nursing accreditation level as well as nurse
rationing (as identified by Schubert et al. 2009) when
making resource allocation decisions.
