‘Why are you wearing my shirt?’
Shin Hye’s cheeks reddened. ‘Uhhhh. I don’t know,’ she replied shyly.
‘Aigooooo, stop being cute. Come on, tell me why. I’m sure you have hundreds of other shirts in your closet.’
Shin Hye looked down once more, still unable to hold Min Ho’s gaze. ‘Promise you won’t laugh?’
‘I promise.’
‘You know, uhm, how in the movies and TV shows, girls wear their boyfriend’s clothes and stuff? I’ve always wanted to try it out, but I never had a boyfriend ‘til now. So the situation presented itself and I just took it…’
Min Ho stifled a laugh.
Shin Hye glared at him. ‘YA! I SAID NO LAUGHING!’ She hit his chest and tried to wiggle her way out again, failing miserably still. She sighed in defeat. ‘I know, I know. It’s lame, laugh all you want.’
‘I’m not laughing because it’s lame. I’m laughing because it’s cute.’ He kissed Shin Hye’s cheek lightly, making her blush. ‘And sweet.’ He proceeded to kiss the other cheek. ‘Oh, and good morning.’ He gave her a soft peck on the lips.
Shin Hye pushed herself off him, pouting. This time, he let her go. Holding her close like that made him subconsciously recall scenes from last night and he wasn’t sure if he had enough restraint not to do anything. He saw Shin Hye look down again; he initially thought she was still shying away from him, but strangely, he noticed that she studied him from the waist up. Her gaze stopped on his face, and a mischievous smirk played on her lips. ‘Uhh, I’ll change now.’ She raked her hand through her hair and walked away hurriedly.
What was that?
‘Oy, what’s with the smile?’ He called out to her before she could enter her room.
She stopped and looked back. ‘I’m wearing this for another reason.’ Shin Hye scanned Min Ho again from head to toe. ‘To look at you like that in broad daylight.’ It was her turn to give him a cheeky smile before swiftly opening the door to her room and going inside.
It took a while before Min Ho understood what she meant. He looked down at himself, wearing nothing else but faded jeans that hung low. He threw his head back in laughter. I guess I’m not the only pyuntae here.
When Shin Hye went out of her room, she was wearing her own T-shirt now, her hair in a high ponytail. Min Ho was leaning on the table, waiting for her. When she entered, he stood up straight and put his hands on his waist, as if striking a pose. Shin Hye furrowed her brows in curiosity as she extended her hand to give him his shirt back. Instead of taking it from her, Min Ho stretched out his arms slowly, pretending to yawn. He flexed his muscles, his upper body now in Shin Hye’s full view. He also bent his neck from side to side before resting his hands on his waist again, finishing off with a flirtatious look on his face.
‘Uhm. What are you doing?’ Shin Hye asked, pursing her lips to keep herself from smiling.
Min Ho sighed and gave her a naughty stare. ‘I feel objectified somehow, but if it’s for you, then I don’t mind. You can keep the shirt.’ He pushed Shin Hye’s hand away and sat down. ‘I knew I went into training for good reason,’ he mumbled to himself as he eyed his arms.
Shin Hye couldn’t hold it in anymore and chuckled. ‘Oppa, just wear the shirt. You’re going to get sick like that,’ she laid it down on the table before turning to the food on the stove.
Min Ho snickered, grabbed the shirt, and put it on. He noticed that it smelled differently, traces of her scent stuck. He tried to block the pervy thoughts that were about to flood his mind. Keep it together. He smiled and put his elbows on the table, his chin propped on his palm. He watched Shin Hye’s back as she prepared breakfast. Her neck was glistening, caused perhaps by fire from the stove. She was wearing a loose shirt, but he can imagine her silhouette underneath the fabric. His gaze trailed down until they reached her shapely legs, which were shown off perfectly by shorts that were too tight and short for comfort.
He closed his eyes and shook his head. ‘Too much, too much,’ he stood up gracelessly, the chair making a grating noise against the floor. Shin Hye turned around and saw Min Ho’s bothered expression. ‘Are you okay, oppa?’
‘Uhh,’ he scratched his head. No I’m not. This is driving me crazy. ‘Have you seen my phone?’
‘Ahh,’ her face lit up in recognition. ‘It’s on the coffee table. It rang a few times, but I didn’t want to wake you.’
She turned back to what she was doing after pointing to the living room. Min Ho walked over to the couch, sensing the need to be at least a few meters away from Shin Hye for now. He ought to steady his heart rate or he’ll end up acting like a crazed man during breakfast.
He grabbed his phone from the table and swiped the screen. He frowned – nine missed calls, all from his manager. There were several messages from him, too. He looked at the time and dialled his manager’s number. After barely one ring, the ahjussi answered.
‘Where are you? I’ve been calling and texting you.’ His gruff voice filled Min Ho’s ears.
‘Hyung, you know where I am. It’s nowhere near call time. I have four hours left.’
‘No, you don’t. You have one hour left. Rehearsals were re-scheduled earlier to make way for an interview and pictorial this afternoon.’
Min Ho didn’t like what he just heard. ‘I’ve told President Jang over and over that I don’t appreciate it when last-minute appointments are added to my schedule. I’m working hard enough as it is. I can’t even count anymore how many times I’ve been on a plane in the last month.’
‘You had a rest day yesterday. And you’re not working now, are you?’ His manager snapped back, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
‘What?!’ Min Ho raised his voice, enraged. ‘Hyung, I really don’t want to get into this with you because I know you’re just following orders. You of all people should know how tough this is for me. What little time I have for myself, I want to enjoy. Please don’t make resent my job,’ he said firmly. ‘If that interview was just added today, then that means that interview can be cancelled. I’ll see you in four hours.’ He hung up and turned his phone off. Closing his eyes, he massaged his temples with his fingers. If he had received that phone call a month ago, he would have nodded and accepted it, albeit begrudgingly. But he wasn’t going to do that now. Not when Shin Hye was in the kitchen making breakfast for him. Not when he was infinitely happier in her apartment just with her, instead of being in front of a camera or thousands of people shouting his name.
He turned around, and Shin Hye was already by the couch – a look of worry in her eyes. ‘Oppa, what’s going on?’
Min Ho stepped closer and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. ‘It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.’
‘Are you sure? It sounded like you were having a fight with your manager. Is everything alright?’ Her expression fell. ‘Do you… have to leave?’
‘No, no,’ he lifted her chin up. ‘I’m not leaving. He just reminded me that I have rehearsals this afternoon.’ He flashed her a smile. ‘I’m starving. Is breakfast ready yet?’
She nodded tentatively. ‘Let’s eat, oppa.’
They were seated in front of each other, Min Ho staring down at the food. He was still trying to calm down after that phone call. As much as he didn’t want it to ruin his morning with Shin Hye, it really bothered him. How can his manager say something like that? Like he was slacking off? Even horses get more rest than I do. He sighed heavily before grabbing his spoon and scooping a mouthful of rice from his bowl. He chewed angrily then looked up to meet Shin Hye’s eyes. She hasn’t touched her food and instead, was observing him closely.
‘Why aren’t you eating?’ He asked, his voice a little rougher than it should have been.
‘Oppa, if you really have to go, I don’t mind…’
‘Shin Hye, please. Not you, too.’ He said firmly, cutting her off. She winced visibly at his gruff tone. She didn’t say anything else and picked up her chopsticks.
Min Ho took one look at the devastated expression on Shin Hye’s face and was flooded with guilt. She didn’t deserve that attitude, not today. He stood up right away, and walked over to her side of the table. He got down on one knee beside her chair and took her hand in his. ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry,’ he said earnestly. ‘I didn’t mean to be harsh,’ he placed a lingering kiss on her hand. He looked up at her, his eyes rueful. ‘I’m really not going anywhere, okay? I’ll stay here for as long as you want.’
Shin Hye’s eyes were gleaming, obviously shaken, but she smiled warmly. ‘Please stay.’
Min Ho rose and swooped in for a kiss, with almost the same intensity as he did the night before. He put his hand on her cheek, lifting her face up, and gently sucked on her lower lip. Shin Hye must have held her breath because after a while, she let out a ragged gasp. Min Ho broke away and whispered on her ear. ‘Shall we have breakfast elsewhere?’
Shin Hye opened her eyes and blinked several times, her mouth parted slightly. When she saw the glint in Min Ho’s eyes, she came back to her senses and hit him hard. ‘YAA!’
‘Ahh wae?’ Min Ho took a step back and rubbed his arm. ‘It was just a suggestion,’ he said glumly, wrinkling his nose.
‘Aish,’ she growled. ‘Eat. I woke up early just to cook, you know.’
Min Ho smiled before taking a seat again. ‘Thank you.’
As they ate in silence, Min Ho kept his eyes on Shin Hye. He observed her eat as he ate – the way her lips moved as she chewed, and how cute her puffy cheeks looked when her mouth was full. She was obviously aware of this and tried her best to avoid his gaze. A few minutes later, she finally looked up at him and caught his eyes. ‘Can you stop?’
Min Ho’s eyes widened in mock surprise, a smile playing on his lips. ‘What did I do this time? I’m just enjoying breakfast. Every bite.’ He picked up one of th
