Having departed her native Korea, Ms Kim’s first ‘real’ job was at famous New York department store Bloomingdale’s back in 1985. There she worked for Marvin Traub – the legendary, almost iconic, figure of US retailing.
She recalls with a laugh her Bloomingdale’s induction under Traub as being “like a military training course”, adding: “Imagine working in the best department store with the toughest Chairman you could ever have. It was great experience.”
