The Campbelltown Rotary Observatory is hosting a free space viewing night, allowing people of all ages to peer through the multiple telescopes and glimpse the moon, planets, star clusters and other exciting celestial objects. Usually used solely for scientific research, the observatory is located at Western Sydney University’s Campbelltown Campus, and is involved in searching for nanosecond laser pulses from outer space using sensitive and sophisticated equipment.
There will be multiple telescopes available on the night, which can show you numerous interesting night sky objects.
Directions: The Observatory should only be approached via Goldsmith Avenue. Turn right at University Drive and drive up to Milky Way. Just follow the signs for the Macarthur Heights Sales Office, which is across the road from the Observatory.
Accessibility: The Observatory is reached via a public stairway from Milky Way. People with disabilities are advised to contact the Society in advance via email for information regarding accessibility to the site and potential use of the telescopes. Red torches only: If you choose to bring a torch, please avoid glare when near the telescopes by covering it with red cellophane.
