DISCUSSION
The clinical chemistry and hematology data did not
indicate any changes that would suggest that these diets
affected the health of broiler chickens. The decrease in
serum alkaline phosphatase associated with the diets
supplemented with phytase might reflect the down
regulation of this enzyme resulting from the increased
availability of phosphorus. The ability of the HAP corn
diets to decrease serum cholesterol was unexpected.
