But Kathy has a goal. She wants to run the Boston Marathon. Thousands of people run this 26.2-mile (42.2 km) race every year. " I know I can't win," Kathy says. "But I want to finish."
Kathy is blind. She can't see. She runs with a partner named Janet Lee. Every day Janet guides Kathy through the streets. Janet ties a string around Kathy's left wrist. She ties the other end around her own right wrist. Kathy feel Janet turn left of right,
On the day of the race, Kathy is excited. At 11.30 a.m., She and Janet go to the starting line. The marathon starts at noon. At first the runners are all together. Soon everyone moves apart. Kathy feels strong. She and Janet run mile. At 1:30 p.m. they run past a college. The student cheer and Kathy smiles.
At 2:15 p.m., She is halfway up Heartbreak Hill. Many runners stop on this big hill. Kathy is very tired, but she doesn't stop. She crosses the finish line at 3:50 p.m. she hugs Janet. Kathy is now a marathon runner.
