Need The Nursing process Assessment
Nurses perform universal screening for domestic abuse on all women seen in the clinical setting, particularly pregnant women who usually are assessed at least once during each trimester. Because battering during pregnancy is one of the major causes of complications of pregnancy, nurses need to be aware of the risk factors of domestic violence during pregnancy. Even older widows have serious unresolved issues relating to abusive relationships with their deceased husbands. To obtain an accurate history of the domestic violence victim, the nurse should not question the victim in front the suspected abuser, family, or friends Walton-Moss and Campbell (2002) cautioned against the use of such terms as abuse and battering, because many abused women do not have this image of themselves. Direct questions are more helpful, such as” Did someone hit you?” It is also important to understand that some women love their partners and desperately want to believe them when they promise that it will never happen again. Nurse responses to a positive screen need to validate and support the victim’s experience. Phrases such as “ I believe you” and “No one deserves to be beaten” are examples of supportive responses to domestic violence victims. In addition, the nurse provides a safe environment where the client will feet comfortable talking about the abuse.
