I finally received my chance to get among the unreached after my second year of full-time ministry when my boss asked me to spend a few weeks in Thailand with some of the students from my ministry. After a twenty-eight hour trip from Alabama and a few days in Bangkok, our team took a twelve hour sleeper train to the north of Thailand. From there, we loaded onto buses and headed east for about four hours, finally loading into the backs of six four-wheel drive pick-up trucks that carried us up muddy mountain roads for another two hours. When we finally arrived at the remote jungle village, two thoughts ran through my mind. The first was that any minute John Rambo should be popping out from behind one of the bamboo houses with a big knife and some emaciated POWs.
