The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the ridership of a station of the SMS and the land-use pattern of its station catchment area. The outcome of the research can provide the basis for integrated TOD policies of land use and transportation for Seoul and other large cities with an urban planning objective to consistently promote transit ridership. The paper begins by reviewing the theories and previous research on TOD to establish a multiple regression model that analyzes the relationship as well as a model to calculate the accessibility index of a station area. Then, the paper illustrates an application of the model and method for the SMS. After the station areas are classified and clustered on the basis of the accessibility index, the model is applied to the clusters of the station areas. Finally, the estimated model of all station areas and of each cluster are compared and explained.
