My name is Yuya J. Morimoto, the filmmaker who stopped by the Hub Saidek Youth Club before about making a short movie and having some children from the Club be a part of the movie. Thank you for agreeing to help me make this film. It is scheduled to be screened on the 27th (saturday) at Speedy Grandma Art Gallery, and the shooting of it will take place on the 25th and 26th.
I wanted to send you a synopsis of the short movie I was intending to make. There is not a complete script yet, as a lot will be improvised during the shooting, but I wanted to let you know of the basic story outline. It is as follows:
"Wonderful Trash" (working title) by Yuya J. Morimoto
*Fluk (12-years old) arrives at hub Saidek Youth Club, accompanied by an adult/guardian.
*The Club takes him in, and introduces other kids to him, and they all go out to play.
*They meet outside to kick around a small soccer ball. Fluk is not so used to kicking the ball.
*The kids work they way to the Talat Noi neighborhood, playing in the narrow streets and alleyways.
*Fluk finally connects with the ball well, but kicks it over a wall into a walled-off courtyard.
*the Kids make Fluk go get the ball. "Don't come back until you find the ball!" they say.
*Fluk goes around the wall and finds a gate, and enters. Meanwhile, a Big Scary Man with a big bag comes along and scares off the other children. They flee.
*Fluk does not find the ball, but meets the woman of the house. She does not know where the ball is, but she gives Fluk a gift to help him find the ball (gift not determined yet)
*Fluk goes outside to discover the other kids are gone. He does not know his way back to the Club.
*Fluk walks around Talat Noi searching for both the soccer ball and the way back to the Hub Saidek Youth Club.
*He stops by the shops of a few skilled artisans in Talat Noi and asks them where to go. Each time, he exchanges something he has (initially it is the gift given to him by the woman in the walled court yard) for another item from the skilled artisan (traditional pillow, moon cake, etc.), and each time is told a new place to go where he might find what he is looking for.
*Eventually he is led to a group of businessmen having a meeting at the top of the Riverview Guest House, where he exchanges something valuable without getting anything back (they take advantage of him). They only leave him with a half-empty bottle of water, and tell him to go away.
*Lost and still having not found the soccer ball, Fluk sits down in an alleyway.
*The Big Scary Man with the big bag comes down the alleyway, and Fluk is scared of him so he runs into a nearby building.
*the Building is Speedy Grandma Art Gallery, and it is exhibiting art work made from trash by artist Ishida Shinya of Japan. Fluk meets the artist, who is in the gallery.
*The Big Scary Man with the big bag comes into the gallery, and Fluk is scared. But the Big Scary Man is actually Shinya's friend, who has collected trash from the neighborhood so that Shinya can make his art work from them.
*The Big Scary Man dumps the content of his bag on the floor, and inside the soccer ball comes out.
*Fluk tells Shinya he wants the soccer ball, but Shinya wants to use it for his art, so he asks for something in return.
*Fluk only has the half-empty bottle of water, so he thinks he does not have anything of value.
*But Shinya says he wants the bottle, and so exchanges the soccer ball for the water bottle.
*Shinya and the Big Scary Man then brings Fluk back to the Hub Saidek Youth Club, where Fluk is greeted by all the other kids. "We're sorry we left you! We're glad you found your way back!"
*Fluk feels welcomed and a part of the group, and is happy to be there.
*CUT TO: Shinya takes the water bottle cap, and has created a piece of art with it. He brings it to Cambodia to donate it to a school of children there.
"One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure"
THE END
I plan to shoot most of this on the 26th, but if there is any time on the 25th or 27th that the children might also be available, I would like to work with them (like the part where they all go play soccer outside, if this can be done on a separate day, that would make things easier)
