role-playing is a T&D inethod in which participants are required to respond to specific problems they may encounter in their jobs by acting out real-World situations. Rather than hearing an instructor talk about how to handle a problem or discussing it, they learn by doing. Role-playing is often used to teach such skills as disciplinary action,interviewing, grievance handling, conducting perforinance appr-aisal reviews, team problem solving, effective communication, and leadersl1ip—style analysis. It has also been used successfully to teach workers how to deal with individuals who are angiy, irate, or out of control, Soine restaurant chains use role-playing to train servers how to deal with difficult situations such as a ouple having an argument at the dining table.”
