The specific objectives of this paper are to (a) describe the survey methodology adopted; (b) indicate the numbers of farmers willing to grow SRC and miscanthus and analyse the responses in relation to a number of farmer characteristics; (c) identify farmer attitudes and the main reasons given for growing and not growing these DECs; (d) estimate potential areas of these crops that could be grown on livestock farms in England based on the survey results and (e) draw national conclusions from these results in relation to the potential barriers/incentives identified to growing and not growing DECs and potential bioenergy supply. The survey methodology and design and results are outlined in Sections 2 and 3, respectively; this is put into the context of the UK bioenergy sector in Section 4. A summary, overall conclusions and policy recommendations are given in Section5.
