The studied site is located on the coast of the S´ wina
Gate Sandbar (Fig. 1) and stretches from Mixdzyzdroje
(412 km of Polish Baltic coastline classification – this
nomenclature will be used in the paper) to the Polish-
German border (428 km). Author carried out investigations
in this area since 1996 (http://bramaswiny.szc.pl).
They consist of morphological, vegetation measurements
in field and analyses of wind speeds and directions
originating from the Polish Meteorological Institute
station localised close to the S´ winoujs´cie beach. Moreover,
investigations of human activity are carried out.
Morphological measurements consist of relief measurements
of different dune ridges and deflation hollows
shape of dune ridges and their development. Vegetation
measurements consist of phytosociological transects
across the ridges (dune vegetation cover and variability
of plant species) and plots of vegetation on different dune
parts with plant differentiation (size 5 m!5 m). Since
2002, sand samples from the beach and dune during
different seasons to define lithological dynamic of sandy
surfaces were collected. Also, anemometers are used to
measure wind speed on different parts of the dunes.
