The Apple Upgrade Program was designed for consumers to be able to purchase an iPhone 6s or 6s plus directly from Apple by paying monthly installments for 24 months. The benefit of this program is that consumers can trade in their iPhone every 12 months for the latest iPhone models directly through Apple, without having to wait till their carrier contract ends. Each iPhone bought under this program will include 2 years of Apple Care+ protection plan and will not be network locked, hence it can be used with any carrier.[92]
Although the program has many great benefits, there are downsides. For instance, the plan does not include cell phone service. Apple will only send the unlocked iPhone itself, so consumers will need to pay for their cell phone service separately. In addition, it can be more costly to pay for the iPhone over 24 months, than paying up front.
