5. The growing service sector and fairness
The continuing shift toward the service industry and positions involving some degree of customer contact highlight several issues related to fairness at work. In the following section, we will discuss the potential influence of the rise of the service industry on fairness-related HR challenges in three areas: 1) employee attitudes and outcomes as related to customer interpersonal justice, 2) em- ployee fairness perceptions of the organization and customer-related outcomes, and 3) service-sector assessment and fairness perceptions.
