The most obvious consequence of wildfires is the partial or complete loss of the aboveground biomass, with various environmental and economical implications. However, wildfires have also a significant impact on soil (Certini, 2005). They particularly affect its organic component. Fire-induced quantitative and qualitative changes of soil organic matter (SOM) have been comprehensively reviewed by Gonzàlez-Pérez et al. (2004) and Knicker (2007).
