Sub-Maximal Stress Tests
• Submaximal stress test are based on the relationship
between oxygen uptake, heart rate and work.
• Because the maximum heart rate is more or less fixed,
subjects with lower heart rate per unit work are more
likely to have higher maximum aerobic power.
• The reliability of this method is limited because the
maximum heart rate is variable.
• Results will also depend on exercise type (much higher
slop for arms only!)
