As I have said, this chapter is very important and has a large amount of significant information where the founding of the United States is concerned. With that said, this is going to be one of those "big" projects that will require some time to complete. For this project I will allow groups of three to work together, as you will be presenting this one and I understand that some feel more comfortable with partners at the front of the room with them during presentation time. I will grade this assignment more strictly than the last presentation and I expect it to be taken extremely serious as this is a portion of how our country came to be and how we are able to enjoy the life we have today. EVERYONE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GROUP PROJECT. BY THIS I MEAN YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TELLING ME WHICH PART YOU TOOK, AND TELLING ME YOU FOUND THE PICTURES WILL NOT GET YOU THE GRADE YOU WANT. IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE YOU WILL HAVE TO EARN A GOOD GRADE. The following is what is required to earn a good grade for this assignment:
1. Review the eyewitness accounts of the Boston Massacre on page 124 - 125. You will be reading an excerpt from British Captain Thomas Preston's account of what happened on the night of the Boston Massacre. You will also read an excerpt of colonists Samuel Drowne's account of the same event. Your group will then create a newspaper front page for each account. (What I mean here is you will create a newspaper front page from the British perspective, and one from the colonist's perspective.) Each newspaper page should have: 1. A date accurate to the event, 2. A headline, 3. A picture or pictures, 4. A summary of the eyewitness account, 5. And your groups reaction ( your groups opinion of the account. It is ok if you all do not agree with each other, just tell me which points you agree and disagree on if this is the case.)
2. You will research the trial of the Boston Massacre. This will be the 2nd page of your "newspaper". Your group will summarize the events of the trial complete with the following: 1. Tell who was on trial and why, 2. Tell who the magistrates (lawyers, judges, etc.) were. If they have significance, give a brief summary of why that person is important or why they will become important. 3. Give a thorough summary of the trial and the outcome.
As always, do not feel overwhelmed. We move fast in the class. I want to stay on pace. This will not be one of those assignments you will put off and do at the last minute. We will use class time wisely. If you are not functioning in the group you are in, I will trade out with another group. I have scheduled a technology meeting for myself to get AirPlay and different methods working. This will benefit the presentations. Do your best work. This is a 200 point assignment.
