The water hauling business is relatively easy to manage. The oil company will assign a water hauler several wells to monitor. The water haulers maintain a route, driving by each well, to gauge the level in the water tanks. If the tanks have reached a certain level, they will vacuum the water into the truck’s tank, drive to the nearest saltwater disposal well site, and pump it into one of the site’s tanks.
Drivers who are not assigned a particular route are on-call for wells that generate a large amount of produced water (due to drilling). These drivers make multiple trips in a day, driving back and forth from the drill site to the disposal well.
