The adverse effects of anthropogenically driven increases in greenhouse gas concentrations on global temperatures and climate have been well established (IPCC, 2013). Governmental efforts to curb these emissions include the UK 2008 Climate Change Act, which will soon be amended to require the UK to produce net-zero emissions by 2050 (Parliament of the United Kingdom, 2008, Chapter 27). This in turn motivated the Greenhouse gAs Uk and Global Emissions (GAUGE) project, which aimed to better quantify the UK carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions.
