The ABM polysaccharides can vitalize the production of interferon and interleukin (Nakajima et al., 2002). Moreover, the fungus is effective in treating AIDS, diabetes, hypotension and hepatitis (Mizuno, 2002). Over the last decade, ABM has been studied as a novel functional food in Japan, Korea, Brazil and China. The fruit bodies of ABM are relatively expensive due to the low yields. So a cheap and stable source of ABM mycelia for commercial purposes is highly desirable.
