T1 – Initial Geo-identification, or understanding
one’s location with reference to the surroundings.
This is done through orienting in map, reality and
mental map terms by comparing, combining and
linking information from every source.
T2 – Identification of Destination and Travel
Decision, during which the destination is identified
and a convenient route (e.g. in terms of time,
distance, cost, quality and trip purpose) toward it
is decided upon.
T3 – Route Confirmation/Route Control/
Reorientation, during which control of the route
is kept, avoiding mistakes and unnecessary roundtrips.
Points of confirmation are used at regular
intervals and possible off-route identification
leads to corrections (through re-orientation)
using acquired landmark and route knowledge.
T4 – Destination Confirmation when the user arrives
(or thinks she has arrived) to the planned destination
and confirms the arrival by comparing, combining
and linking information from any available source.
