Nitrogen availability differentially affects oxidative stress undersalinity stress
Soil salinity leads to an accumulation of Na+and Cl−ions cau-ing oxidative stress in plants. In the present study, N availability differentially affected the accumulation both in the presenceand absence of salt stress. In the absence of salt stress, 10 mMN maximally decreased Na+and Cl−content compared to control. In contrast, maximum reduction in content of Na+and Cl−occurred with 20 mM N under salt stress in comparison tocontrol (Fig. 1). Plants grown under salt stress showed a higher accumulation of H2O2 and TBARS and exhibited greater oxidative stress than the control plants. Application of N reduced the contents of H2O2and TBARS, with maximal reduction at 10 mM N in plants without salt stress and at 20 mM N in plants with salt stress
