In a study of frail nursing home residents, consumption of a greater variety of fruits and vegetables was associated with better nutritional status. Whether this finding can be generalized to all older adults has not been determined. Older adults with limited income and mobility limitations often don’t have easy access to a large variety of foods. A project in Detroit is setting up produce stands in local community centers to increase older adults’ access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This project may serve as a model for other communities
