Among the normal flora of the human gastrointestinal and
urogenital tracts, lactobacilli are one of the most interesting organisms
for use as probiotics. The Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations and World Health Organization defines
probiotics as live microorganisms that when administered in
adequate amounts, confers beneficial effects on the health of the
host [1].
