An enhanced parametric model of an eddy current electric
machine for automotive braking application is presented in the
paper. The eddy current brake model presented here is a more
accurate model with respect to the retarder steady state torque
characteristics. A parameter estimation scheme has been presented
to identify the model parameters. The proposed model
shows good correlation with on-vehicle test data at most speed
ranges. Another advantage of the proposed model is that no
look-up table is required once the model parameters have been
identified, making it more computationally efficient.
