The rate of culture negative peritonitis in the
present study was quite high compared to the acceptable
range (< 20%)3, the reasons for the condition could
be explained by receiving antibiotics without back-up
culture results from local community hospitals prior to
admission at the study center or technical problems
during dialysate culture.
The relationship of diabetes and infectious
organisms was not clearly defined in the present study.
However, previous studies have demonstrated that
diabetic patients were susceptible to gram positive peritonitis(
16,17). This could be explained by intraperitoneal
insulin administration. This mode of administration
was not applicable in the presented patients
